Time.

‘Time is a flat circle’.

I stumbled on this quote one time & it set my neural gears in motion. What’s a flat circle? How can it be? How’d it look like? Would we need a third eye to be able to conceive this idea? However confusing it was, the quotee had made his point. Time is undefinable. For one, it lacks boundaries so metrics are of no use when quantifying it. It’s basically how much consciousnesses we are aware of. Sentience.

The lack of defining qualities is why it’s the most intriguing aspect of the human experience. Time & time we’ve heard of people saying how much they’d buy time if it was possible. The 2014 sci-fi movie “Interstellar” stunned us with an incredible script & stunning graphics, but the central theme was how much choices are key in shaping our destiny.

With so much esteem placed on time, over & over again, people are guilty of misappropriating it. It’s not hard to find the reason why, because as much as it’s valuable, it’s valueless. The curse of the inexhaustible quantity.
This article is directed at the regular Nigerian youth who might be tempted to live without attaching much to life.

‘Time dey, but time nor too dey’.

There’s the urge to be wild. To lose track. To live without essence. To enjoy life at surface value. That shot of dopamine.

Again, time dey, but time nor too dey.

I was talking with my friend the other day & we spent a great time ruing the time we misappropriated. The chances that slipped past us & how we’d go back to correct things if we could. But time is a stream itself, a flow that’s continuous, never to return.

Time is the last thing you should be willing to waste. Every second counts. Take that step now. Do what has to be done. There are folks who will think they have missed their chance & think only another in life will they be able to correct things. No, you can now. There’s an adage that says “the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, second best time is now”. Be strong enough to know what you want. Stop the procrastination. Take that exam. Register for that internship. Learn that skill. Make that move. Talk to that person. Create that connection. Build that circle. Know your maker. Know where you stand. Be focused!

The 20’s especially moves at breakneck speed. Everything is fast. It’s sweet, virile & vibrant. As you move towards the 30’s & eventually enter it, life slows down. You have better vision. The smoke clears. You know what you want, but it might be too late.

If there’s anything that defines the youth, it’s lack of introspection. Introspective people are calculated people. Meticulous & dependable people. I don’t need to check any study conducted by John Hopkins University to know they’re most likely to succeed.

You’ll make mistakes still. No matter how hard you plan your life. Some will be beyond your control, others as a result of iteration.

But do what must be done anyway; which is the possible.

Because time dey, but time nor too dey.

E go be. I hail.
